Variable APRs for each billing period are based on the Prime Rate published in The Wall Street Journal 2 days before the Closing Date of the billing period. The Wall Street Journal may not publish the Prime Rate on that day. If it does not, we will use the Prime Rate from the previous day it was published. If the Prime Rate increases, variable APRs will increase. In that case, you may pay more interest and have a higher Minimum Payment Due. When the Prime Rate changes, the resulting changes to variable APRs take effect as of the first day of the billing period. Variable APRs are accurate as of 07/15/10.

I wouldn’t worry too much about these terms as you most likely will not qualify for an AmEx card as your first card.
If you are under 21, you have to prove income now or have a cosigner to get a credit card.
American Express is one of the more difficult cards to qualify for.

No matter what card you get, pay the balance off in full each month. Miss no payments and be on time.
If you do not do this, you are on the path to financial problems.

New Federal Laws will make it nearly impossible for you to get a card if you are under 21.
You must get a co-signer.
If you want to develop credit make a secured loan at your bank.
Spend at least a year paying back.
Secret to top 800+ scores:
Use a credit card for things you need like food or gas and pay in full each month.
Carrying balances not only can destroy credit - it can devastate your life.
Never choose a card because of it’s APR.
If you pay in full when you get the bill in the mail - you will never pay APR - interest.
The Amex you are choosing is near the best.
You won’t ever pay a penny in fees or interest if you pay in full.

First of all, it has been my experience that American Express is one of the hardest credit cards to obtain. I was in my 40’s, owned my own home, had a car loan paid off, paid my bills on time, and had good credit and still was denied. They will deny you over anything and everything. Second of all, many merchants do not accept American Express for various reasons. Third, having credit cards may seem like a good idea at first… especially if you’re in a pinch. However, the long-term cost can be overwhelming, if not devastating. Try to pay cash whenever you can. Try not to live above your means. It will save you in the long run. Debt is simply not worth it! Trust me! Also, these rates seem rather high to me. They make it sound good but that seems to be a "gotcha" trick. Don’t fall for it! Pay cash and be done with it. If you can’t afford it, you probably didn’t really need it in the first place.
