SEO for Dummies – # 3

SEO Overview

There are a number of things we can do to improve our rankings on the search engines .  Generally speaking, it’s the combination of the various things we do that make the difference.  That being said , if you have a more complex search, you could be number one next week.  For example, I just Googled “ pittsburgh clogged toilet ” and there wasn’t a single hit.  Just putting that text on your website pretty much guarantees that you’ll get on Google Page 1 – esp. if the user types that exact term with quotation marks around it.  If you perform a search with quotation marks around it, Google looks for an exact match for everything between the quotation marks.

Domain Name

If you are starting a brand new site, consider a domain that is related to your top terms.  For our example, if you can get www.pittsbugh-therapists.com , that’s a good thing.  If you can’t, you can still do variations, like www.my-pittsburgh-attorneys.com . I don’t believe Google cares if you are .com .net .biz or .whatever.  I’ve researched whether having dashes in your domain name makes a difference, and have seen arguments pro and con.  Having dashes seems to be working just fine for us.

Keyword Density (also known as keyword saturation)

One of the most important things you can do is to saturate your visible text with keywords.  What does this mean?  Suppose I have 100 words on my website, and one of them is “therapist.”  That gives me a keyword density of 1% – one out of 100.  If the word “therapist” appears four times, I have a keyword density of 4%.  That’s a lot better.

Google is pretty smart, so you want to do things that are ethical and legitimate.  If you can work the word therapist into your text a bunch of times, that’s fine.  But don’t just put “therapist, therapist, therapist, therapist, therapist” in a row on your website.  Google will ding you and you’ll get less, not more, points.

Also, don’t try cute stuff like putting white text on a white background.  Google is hip to this trick and will ding you again.

Keyword Prominence

Another aspect of on-site SEO is keyword prominence.  This is how close to the top of the page your keywords appear.  Google typically assumes that the words closer to the top of the page are more important.

Does Micro Niche Finder Really Work?

Internet marketing has been all the rage when it came to online businesses in these past years. With so many finding their fortunes through this means, it finally figures why so many keep telling us that the internet is filled with so many opportunities to earn money.

But in order for you to build your internet business empire, you have to think about finding a profitable niche first.

The task of finding a profitable niche doesn’t just stop at that. One must be able to find a specific niche with reasonable competition. If you know that your competition is just to strong for you to overtake, it isn’t practical anymore to still stay in that niche when you know that you can’t dominate anyway.

To help you with such task, numerous programmers have developed a slew of software and programs that will help you search for these niches. In fact, you can find a couple of these programs for free online. But the only problem with free services is you don’t get much. Micro Niche Finder is the latest in these kinds of software.

Essentially what Micro Niche Finder does is to search for all these niches that you can use for your business. Micro Niche Finder provides the basic function of researching different keywords over the internet at the same time the more advanced feature of finding out the strength of the competition in every keyword.

What I really appreciate with the program is the fact that it is very systematic. Micro Niche Finder allows you to save and organize all your searches and results. The program sorts everything alphabetically for easy retrieval. Plus, everything is stored in a drop down box.

Micro Niche Finder also has a commendable performance as it can come up with more than 200 keywords in just 2 very short seconds. And you can even transfer all these keywords easily to your excel spreadsheets in just a simple click of a button.

And you can even tell the number of websites competing for a single keyword.

I hope you found this post helpful. To find out how you can make money on the internet then visit my review site. Another site I suggest visiting is my friends bowtrol site.

Ad Tracking – Boosting Up Your Ad Copy

It’s easy to be tempted into focusing on the technical aspect when running Pay Per Click ads. While click-through rates, for example, are integral to any cyber marketing campaign, they merely come second to the ads themselves. One cannot achieve a desirable click-through rate when the ads are not working properly. But before they even work, they must be in good form. Therefore, before any technical considerations, the quality of the ads must be treated with paramount priority. When you make PPC ads, there’s only one goal in mind: get clicked. Therefore, to improve your chances of that click and sale, put the most popular term or keyword in your title. When you use a web site tracking software, you’ll be amazed how the right keyword increases your click-through ratio which, of course, impacts your sales positively. That’s because when your ad matches what a web searcher types in a search engine box, it creates an impression that you have exactly what the searcher is looking for. This almost guarantees a click. Almost, because the before an ad is clicked, it first has to make sense. That all-important keyword simply won’t work when you’re talking Martian with the rest of the words. correct grammar and spelling are basic and critical and they’re always the first measure of a good ad. How can you expect somebody to click on your ad if it’s not even comprehensible? You do have to be able to get a message across before any person in his right senses would even take the time to lift a finger and click your link. Sometimes, it’s easy to overlook typographical errors but even these are inexcusable when it comes to effective, positive response-generating ads. So don’t leave room for mistakes. Always have your material proofread, either by your staff or by anybody you know who might not mind going through your ads once in a while and report errors of any kind. When writing PPC ads, it’s also important to remember that these are intended for people who generally prefer to transact online. That’s the reason why they’re even likely to click on your link. The psyche associated with this type of shopper is inclined towards an element of spontaneity or impulsiveness resulting from an emotional response to what appears to be an attractive offer. Therefore, when you run PPC ads, you’re actually rooting for an emotional response which, hopefully, drives a click. That means when you write your ad copy for this type of marketing, you have to write with emotion. It doesn’t mean you have to be overly creative. In fact, you shouldn’t be because studies prove straight-to-the-point ads actually drive more clicks than those laden with drama. The important thing is to write something that draws an emotional response strong enough for a prospect to actually click your ad. For example, instead of expounding on the features of your product, you can enumerate its benefits in a way that makes the prospect feel as though he was missing out on so much if he didn’t bother to give your ad a chance. Competitors are a big chunk of things you need to consider when making your ads and the only thing that matters in this aspect is standing out. Therefore, no matter how many of you there are, you’ll have to be able to create something that makes it appear like you were the only right one in the ocean of choices. Make your ads attention-grabbing and unique to make sure anybody even bothers to read it. Conversion tracking is a scientific way of knowing how you’re doing with your ads and as long as you keep track of your own web site statistics, you should be able to tell if you need to improve on anything or change your ads altogether.

Generating Website Traffic With Automated Video Submissions

copyright 2009 by Willie Crawford

It’s no secret that the right videos, submitted to the right  places, can generate millions of views.

It’s no secret that the search engines love video and are constantly crawling video sharing sites. You can often get  a top 10 ranking for a keyword, using video, in under an hour.

Let’s look at some of the keys to getting some of that great traffic using videos.

One of the first things that you’ll notice is that in a lot of niches, tons of people are discovering video.  That means that you need to create and submit more videos, and you need to submit them to more places.  If you don’t used an automated submission service, that can be very tedious, and tie up your computer for hours on end.

As you prepare to create your videos, you need to begin by asking what is it that you want to accomplish. More specifically, what do you want your viewers to do after they finish watching a given video?

After you identify the goal of the video, you need to actually map it out on a “storyboard.”  What will be in each frame, and what will the audio say?

If your video is being created using a tool such as Camtasia (screen capture software) then you also want to script it. You don’t want to leave any element of your video to chance. You don’t want any little thing detracting from accomplishing your goal.

If you practice the script and are very familiar with it, even if you read it, it will sound natural to many viewers.

Speaking of sound, having high-quality audio is one of the most important elements of a good video. Having understandable audio, recorded at the right level is actually more important than the quality of the picture.

The way to get great sounding audio is to 1) use a quality microphone, and 2) don’t put the mike too close to your mouth. You also need to be in a quiet place when you make  the recording.

Those are some technical tips for creating a good video that will generate lots of traffic and perhaps even go viral.

Let’s look at one other slightly technical issue that you absolutely must consider.  Your video must target the right keywords. That is, the title and description that you enter at the video sharing sites must use terms that your ideal customers are using when searching for your topic.

It would probably be worthwhile to spend some time using a tool such as the Google AdWords External Tool to confirm EXACTLY what terms people are searching on related to your product or service.  You’ll find that free tool at:

https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

While researching using the Google External Keyword Tool, look not only at the number of searches done each month on a term, but also at the competition. Often you can get an instant number-1 ranking for less competitive terms that can still send you a worthwhile amount of traffic – and these people are buyers actually looking for very specific brands, etc.  Those “long-tail keywords” are worth their weight in gold when you notice ones that your competitors haven’t.

In part-2 of this article, we’ll look at formatting and submitting your videos in a way that runs circles around your competitors. For now, start jotting down notes for a few videos that you will make and use in your website traffic generation efforts.
