Entrepreneurship in the Online World

Entrepreneurship in the online world is simply about transferring those skills of taking an idea to market, seeing an existing need and filling it and creating new ways of doing things to the digital marketplace. Rather than dealing with a brick and mortar location and attracting foot traffic for their new ventures, online entrepreneurs focus on generating web traffic by satisfying the needs of their online visitors for elegant solutions to their challenges.

What is an entrepreneur?

The Concise Encyclopedia of Economics defines entrepreneurship this way:  “An entrepreneur is someone who organizes, manages, and assumes the risks of a business or enterprise. An entrepreneur is an agent of change. Entrepreneurship is the process of discovering new ways of combining resources. When the market value generated by this new combination of resources is greater than the market value these resources can generate elsewhere individually or in some other combination, the entrepreneur makes a profit.”

To describe entrepreneurs as, agents of change and people who assume risks is just scratching the surface. The word entrepreneur conjures up images of trailblazers like Richard Branson, who see a need, create a business to fulfill that need and get compensated handsomely for it.

How is entrepreneurship different in the online world?

In the online world, entrepreneurs often focus either on creating software and information products, which can be purchased online and delivered instantly without intervention at the customer’s convenience, or on creating an entire online business that can then be sold. The true entrepreneur always has some kind of business venture brewing. Their passion is creating a thriving enterprise from a nugget of an idea, or even taking a struggling business, reviving it and selling it at a profit.

The Internet provides the perfect venue for entrepreneurs because there is so much opportunity to start a business from a single idea and get it going without a large amount of financial investment unlike starting a brick and mortar business, which has a whole host of expenses including the physical location and inventory.

The word “entrepreneur” taken from an archaic French verb, entreprendre, which means, “to do something” or “to undertake,” so by the nature of the origins of the word, entrepreneurs are those who use their talents and ingenuity to do something to change the world, and they always find a way to get handsomely rewarded for their efforts. Out of the big successes that entrepreneurs bring about, the world is changed. For example, Apple, now one of the wealthiest companies in the world, was started by two men in a garage. The massive Wal-mart chain began from a single store in Arkansas, and Ford Motor Company, started by Henry Ford, brought a product to market that has without exaggeration, changed the entire world.

In the online world, youtube.com is a prime example of entrepreneurship in action. It was about seeing a need, filling it and getting rewarded handsomely for it. Youtube.com was developed, as the story goes, by three college friends because of the challenges they faced sharing a digital video among themselves. Now, who can imagine an Internet without Youtube?

Whether online or in real life, entrepreneurship is about taking action on your ideas, and finding a way to create a profit.

Copywriting Tips: Getting to Know Your Audience

Online copywriting is salesmanship in print, but in order to sell anything you’ve got to know who Your audience is. To write effective copy for your website you’ve got to really get to know your audience, who they are, what they like, what they dislike, what their hopes and dreams are, and what they do for fun.

Taking the time to do your market research will pay off because that is the only way to determine your target market and identify the profile of your ideal customer. Once you know who your ideal customer is, you can use that information to write copy in a way that directly appeals to the needs, wants and desires of your market.

In order to be effective copywriting should be directed towards a specifically defined audience. It’s almost like you want to get inside their heads and find out what they think about, what kinds of lifestyles they pursue and what their highest aspirations are so that when you write, you are speaking their language.

Tools for knowing your audience:

Quantcast.com

According to quantcast.com, these are the basic (estimated) demographics for the visitors to this website:

  • 72% male
  • 58% visitors between the ages of 34-49
  • 87% Caucasian
  • 80% have no children in the household
  • 57% have income in the $30-60k range
  • 58% Have no college degrees

If you sign up for an account on quantcast you can get more information about your website visitors, which can be very useful to you in many ways including improving your copy.

Surveymonkey.com

Creating a survey is another way to learn more about your website’s audience.  Come up with a few questions that you want your readers to answer, but be sure to keep the survey short and to the point.  Offer a small incentive or ‘thank you,’ gift to your readers when they have filled out the survey.  If you  provide a service, doing a survey is a great way to gather testimonials from your past customers. Be sure to get their permission to use their testimonials on your website first. Also ask if they agree to allow you to use their full name along with their testimonial.

Putting it all together to improve your copywriting

Gather the results from quantcast.com and from the survey and analyze them. Use the insight that you have gained to help shape the language of your offer so that you are using the same language that they use in the survey to answer your questions. This is very powerful because people love to read copy that feels like it has been written just for them with their wants and needs in mind.

It can’t be emphasized enough the importance of really taking the time to get to know your audience and learning what makes them tick. If you work at creating a mutually beneficial relationship they will open up to you and share exactly what they need and what they want. Use this information to write magnetic copy that attracts your ideal customers and helps you sell more from your website.

Copywriting is just one of many important things that Internet marketers need to know to run a successful online business. For more tips and strategies for marketing your website, visit, http://www.mcreasite.com/blog today.

Copywriting Tips: 10 Essential Elements of an Effective Sales Page

Copywriting is an acquired skill that takes years of practice and study in order to get really good at it. That’s why good copywriters with a reputation that precedes them can demand such high rates for their work. If you want a slam-dunk, killer sales page for your flagship product, your best bet is to hire the best professional copywriter you can afford. But if you don’t have the budget to hire one of the big guns to crank out a long-form sales page for you, there is a basic formula that you can follow to write one yourself. Just understand that you can’t expect to demand the level of sales from your DIY sales letter as you could expect from one written and designed by a professional.

With that said, let’s take a look at some of the basic elements of a sales letter so that you can go about building one for yourself.

  1. Headlines

The headline must grab and hold the reader’s attention drawing them in to the copy. The headline is so vital that it’s broken down into three parts:  1. The Pre-headline, 2. The main headline, and 3. The post, or sub-headline.

  1. Introduction

This is where you further draw the reader in by telling them who you are and why they should be listening to you. You’ve got to come off like a genuine, authentic person worth knowing, liking and trusting.

  1. What is the story?

Tell the story of the product. Connect with the reader through their pain points and show how you ‘get’ their problem. Explain the failings of other similar products, and then articulate how yours is their best choice.

  1. Benefits

Use bullet points to show the benefits of your product. Come up with as many bullet points as possible to show all of the amazing benefits of your product.

  1. Features

Show what they will be getting with the product.

  1. Sell the value

Really emphasize the value of your product when compared to other similar products. Describe any bonuses and how they relate to or support the product.

  1. Testimonials

This is where you share your social proof. Readers will see that other people like them have already tried this product and liked it enough to endorse it. Testimonials with pictures and real names are very effective in breaking down readers’ resistance.

  1. Answer objections

Anticipate any objections that your readers might have and answer them here.

  1. How to order

Ask for the order and explain how easy it is to buy your product.

  1. Summary

Give a wrap-up of how awesome your product is, what an incredible value they are getting, and how foolish they would be to pass this up.  Create a sense of urgency to encourage them to act quickly.

Copywriting is a combination of art and science. It is a skill that you must practice in order to get good at it. You’ve got to test all of the elements of your sales page to see how changing specific elements impacts the conversion rate.

If you must write your own sales page, these are some of the most essential elements to include to create an effective sales page.

Copywriting Tips: How to Write Headlines Like a Pro

What is the secret to doing anything like a pro? Emulate someone who is a master at what they do and eventually your skills will improve with practice. Copywriting is a learned skill that takes years and practice to do effectively. If you want to excel as a copywriter you’ve got to learn from the best.

One of the secrets of copywriting is the fact that so many copywriters borrow from one another. Called, “swiping,” in the industry, many elements of good copywriting are borrowed from master copywriters. If you want to learn how to write effective headlines, you can study and learn from the best by starting your own collection of effective headlines to use as your own ‘swipe’ file.

But we’re getting a bit ahead of ourselves here. Let’s take a step back and look at what a headline is and the purpose it serves in online copywriting.  The title or headline of any piece of writing is the most important part of that piece of writing because the headline is what grabs the reader’s attention, and if it’s effective holds the reader’s attention long enough to get them to read the first sentence or paragraph of the article or advertisement.  If the headline fails, then the rest of the copy never gets read.

An effective headline makes a promise about the copy that follows.  There are varying schools of thought when it comes to whether you should write the headline first or last. Writing the headline first helps to guide your thoughts and intentions as you write the piece of copy, but when you write it last you can make sure that the headline captures what the piece contains. Take the time to craft a good headline. Some writers come up with several different headlines and test them until they land on just the right one.

In his book, Hypnotic Writing: How to Seduce and Persuade Customers with Only Your Words, by Joe Vitale, he writes this about testing the effectiveness of a headline:

“Ask yourself: “Can this headline be used for any competitor’s ad, letter or website?” Imagine placing your ad on a competitor’s copy. Will the headline still work? If so, change yours.”

Whether or not you get too deep into copywriting, knowing how to write a compelling headline is a valuable skill. It’s worth reading through some copywriting text books such as the timeless classic, Scientific Advertising, to learn about the art and science of writing good headlines.

Start your own swipe file and save those headlines that have moved you to action, caught your eye and made you think, or inspired you to make a purchase.  Find ways to incorporate the effective elements into your own headlines.

Here are a few headline writing tips from Derek Franklin’s, No Fluff Guide to Copywriting:

  • Ask a question
  • Use a testimonial
  • Tie it to a current news item
  • Enter the conversation in their head
  • Tell a story

Keep writing and testing your headlines and before you know it you will start cranking out headlines like a pro.

Copywriting: A Vital Skill for Internet Marketers

Do you want more sales from your website? Seems like a silly question, right? If you are an internet marketer who sells stuff online then you know how much you rely on your website to sell for you 24/7. When you get right down to it, it’s the copy on your website that is attracting those visitors and converting them to paying customers making copywriting a vital skill that all Internet marketers need to know about and at least have some basic familiarity with.

What is copywriting?

Copywriting is basically salesmanship in print. Copywriters use their writing skills to weave a compelling story that draws them in, captures their attention, dissolves their resistance and makes them feel comfortable enough to whip out a credit card and buy what you have to offer.

Since the majority of visitors will require five or more ‘touches’ from you before they will actually buy, copywriting is also part of the follow up process where you use words to create a mutually beneficial relationship with your visitors inviting them back to your website to find the solution to their current challenge.

How can learning about copywriting help me in my online business?

Even if it is not your intention to learn copywriting itself, learning about what makes effective, compelling copy is important when it comes time to hire a professional copywriter. You’ll want to learn about the vital elements of a good sales page even if you don’t plan to try to write it yourself. You will be testing these pages, so it’s important to know what each page should have to attract the right kind of traffic.

After awhile you will soon discover that copywriting will have an influence on all of the content creation that you do for your business whether it’s writing articles, creating scripts for your marketing videos, coming up with PPC ads, and even writing blog posts.  Your copy is what will convert a visitor to a buyer and then to a loyal fan.

What results can I expect from learning copywriting?

If you take the time to study copywriting and apply the skills you learn to writing better copy on your website, or apply what you learn to hire a good copywriter to do the same you can expect better search engine rankings over time because of the improvement in your website’s SEO copy. You can expect more opt-ins and improved conversion rates from your email marketing efforts because of the improved copy going out to your subscribers. You can also expect higher conversion rates on your website after you re-write the copy.

Your website is your 24/7 sales vehicle, but without expertly crafted copy it is not going to generate the amazing results that it could be

Whether you work on learning copywriting skills yourself, or hire a professional copywriter, you should take the time to become familiar with the craft.
