Optimized Press Releases and SEO

Quality press releases have always been an excellent way to drive traffic to a website, improve search engine rankings, and build brand recognition. But not all press releases are created equal. The difference in a release depends on the intended results.

Traditionally press releases or news release were major news events and announcements from large corporations. The cost to make such an announcement was very high and the methods to distribute the information ranged from the telex, fax to relationships and networks of people. The internet and the availability of low cost distribution services has changed this considerably. Any business can now afford to do a press release. This is both a good and bad thing. The shear quantity of press releases now being done has clouded what is “Real News” from just plain marketing and attempts to improve a business’s standings with the search engines. What could be better than a relevant links from a network of high ranking, high traffic news sites? Well not much, and that’s why press releases are more prevalent.

Finding a way to get your press release SEEN is the real trick, and that’s why services that focus on optimized press releases are in high demand. Anyone can write up a 300 word press release and send it out on WebWire for $19 and get a boost in traffic, but the real benefit is when you do the work up front to make sure your release is receiving the maximum exposure, and giving you the biggest boost in your sites link value and traffic.

So in order to compete with the masses now doing press releases as a form of “article marketing” and pagerank improvement you need to do something more. The focus has to be on effective keyword research and the crafting of documents and titles that are being searched for online. Search Engine Optimization Tools

There are so many companies that offer Search Engine optimization tools it enough to drive you nuts. Over the last few years we have purchased or tried just about every tool or website script you can imagine. All and all most of these tools do have some value and provide useful information. The biggest drawback is that they do not actually DO the search engine optimization, they just give clues on how and what direction to go.

I highly recommend every webmaster consider purchasing a few of these systems if they are interested in designing and building effective websites.  But for most businesses, that do not have the time and brain power to allocate towards SEO, their best solution is to hire a SEO firm.  Some may say the expense it too much but consider the following.  You can elect to hire a full time person to manage SEO at your business and pay them say $3,000 a month plus benefits. This seems like a lot of money, however after you go to the expense and time to train this person they will probably be able to a find job for a lot more money or leave and start their own SEO business. This can get quite expensive, not just in terms of lost money to hire and train someone, but also the opportunity cost of lost business and the substandard marketing results that will occur while transitioning from one SEO person to the next. SEO is not a set and forget process, it’s a constant effort to refine and keep up to speed with changing technologies and competition.

So given all these joyful thoughts why not hire a SEO company to handle this for your business. SEO experts spend a considerable amount of time keeping up to speed and studying what’s happening in the world of Search Engine Marketing. It’s true our fees may seem a bit expensive, but in reality the cost of hiring an SEO firm is less than having your own SEO person on staff. Keep in mind the cost of change and the lost opportunities to do business. SEO firms are creating sales opportunities for organizations around the world. Compared to the cost of a CPA or a lawyer, which do not generate revenue, the cost of an effective SEO firm is quite small.

Now you might want to go out and buy all those great SEO tools like we have. But remember it’s not the tool that matters. Its how and what you do with the tool that will impact your business. No piece of software can replace years of experience and the human brain.
