Passive income is almost like the Holy Grail of Internet marketing. Passive income streams require some time and energy to set up, but if done properly, can be set on virtual auto-pilot and they begin cranking out income without a lot of additional effort.

But many people are under the mistaken illusion that passive income is only for successful ‘guru’ type Internet marketers who have a massive mailing list and lots of high-profile buddies who will do joint ventures with them.

With digital information products, you use your knowledge and expertise to create a product whether it’s a video, audio program or a text eBook, you create the product once, but you can continue to sell it for years generating passive income. Even after the information is not quite as current you can offer it as a free product to build your list.

• Affiliate marketing

Pre-selling and drumming up interest and demand for other people’s products is a low-cost way to start generating some passive income streams. One you’ve created a blog, articles and videos with your affiliate links pointing at the vendor’s site, then you’ve got to send traffic to those resources. But if what you are marketing has a recurring income component, you’re doing the work of selling the product once, but enjoying the returns for as long as the customer stays with the program.

• Subscription, membership, or continuity programs

They have many names, but basically you create a resource that people are willing to pay monthly for. You create the content once, but you get paid for it again and again, month after month.

• Multi-level/ Network Marketing

When you join a network marketing company and start selling their products and recruiting others to sell products under you, you derive a passive income not only from their efforts, but from the efforts of the people that they recruit.

Each of these ideas requires an initial investment of your time, energy, ideas and money. But once you get them set up and running successfully, your efforts will begin generating passive income streams.
