Affiliate Marketing – How Does Affiliate Marketing Work?

Affiliate Marketing is a hot topic and searched for a lot especially with the economy the way it is today. One reason for being a hot subject, is because it is a way to do business online with low start up costs, but unless it is done right it could cost you more then the shirt on your back. So let’s get down to it just how does affiliate marketing Work?

First of all, if you are just trying to get started lets just concentrate on the low or no cost way of affiliate marketing. an that is using article writing or article marketing. I can already hear some say, oh no I can’t write! It is as simple as putting it down on paper as if you were talking to a friend.

In case you don’t already know, affiliate marketing is where you, the middle man (person), put the searcher or buyer of a product or information in touch with the seller of that product or info using your articles. But, let me emphasize this point! You are putting the two together! Like an introduction, you are not the salesperson!

Okay, with that out of the way lets get down to looking at how affiliate marketing works. You will need something to promote with your article content, so find a product informational or other wise and see if they have an affiliate program, if they do sign up, but please do your research and be sure it is legitimate and they really do pay their affiliates.

After signing up you will get your affiliate ID, this is a URL or website address that recognizes you as the person who introduces the buyer to the seller. The buyer because they clicked on your URL they are sent to the sellers website with a cookie(a small information file), that shows the buyer that you are the one that sent them.

During this introduction period this cookie is saved to the buyers computer which works to your benefit in case they do not purchase right away, you see the cookie last a little while on the buyers computer. The life of the cookie will vary. When that person does buy the cookie saved on their computer will still recognize you, and you will get credited for the sale.

I hope you are following and understanding what I said, well at least my friend did. Ha Ha just kidding. Any way there are affiliate networks online that do pay their affiliates and are free to join, such as Click Bank, Commission Junction, Amazon, Yahoo etc.

Pick an affiliate program join, get familiar with the program and pick out products that you are interested in introducing people to, and now comes the important part find as many keywords as possible that buyers are searching for to find your chosen product, then get busy writing your introduction, I mean your article marketing campaign around those precious keywords.
