Welcome from Bill
McRea I feel it is important to give you a bit of
background information about Bill McRea. First I am not
an internet marketing guru, but I am successful in
internet marketing. Back in 2002 I started an internet
retailer called 24HourGuitar. In those days I thought all
you had to do was build a website and you’d get a million
customers. That’s what you call being a bit naïve.
I managed to build a terrific website and had it loaded over
20,000 items. I purchased, stocked, packed and serviced all the
orders generated by 24HourGuitar. Before long I figured out how
to use Google Adwords and EBay and I quickly grew the business
to over $2,000,000 in revenues in 2004.
Some people call that success, but I was a small player in
an extremely competitive business. More and more people were
unloading merchandise on EBay and competing for Adwords driving
our advertising cost up and our profit margins down. I had to
deal with customer returns, damaged product, quality, financial
management and a staff of 12 people. I hated everything about
being in the internet retail business.
My best friend purchased the business and quickly shut down
the retail part of the company, for the more lucrative
recording and rehearsal studio services we offered. I sold the
rights to the domain name, and found a job as a Chief Financial
Officer for a company in San Diego.
I am a true entrepreneur so in mid 2005 I started using my
internet skills to dabble in affiliate marketing. I really did
not know what I was doing, ,but I’ve had a lot of success
marketing affiliate products through Commission Junction,
and by developing information sites to earn money from Google
Adsense.
Straight from College (1985) I worked as a controller and
Vice President of Finance until 1996 when I became the
President and CEO of a large Agricultural Wholesaler and I
helped take the company public. Pretty heady stuff for a young
man, but after 17 years of stress and not stop work, I walked
away to chase my dot com dreams. Now I have a more grounded and
pragmatic approach. Internet Marketing is work, and there are
no fast ways to a Ferrari and a house in Maui. I make a very
nice second income doing very simple things, but I am armed
with patience, time and a few battle wounds.
